A new series of paintings by Přemysl Procházka (1991), a graduate of Vasil Artamanov’s painting studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno, invites viewers to take an imaginary walk through an urban landscape, roundabouts, excavations, and high tension line pylons. The stroll continuously develops two painting strategies. The first can be termed “processual painting”, where the artist expands the traditionally two-dimensional medium to include the dimension of time. We can define Procházka’s second favorite strategy as “material literalism”: the individual elements of his paintings are of materials or material substance found in the real world. An example of the latter strategy is the “Stroll” series, where he created the details composing the cityscapes of concrete, clay, tar, or sand.
