Curator Marcel Fišer
Miroslava Klesalová (b. 1985) started her art studies at a relatively late age, first in the textile studio at the UMPRUM in Prague, then in the graphic design studio at the Academy of Fine Arts. There she created works inspired by nature and landscape using various techniques — ink drawing, screenprinting, and monotyping. Often bordering on abstraction, they strongly evoked Chinese art, whether the piece was an ink landscape or calligraphy.
Landscape became the main theme of her thesis in 2020, but she approached the topic differently, managing to combine the two previous aspects of her work, i.e. textiles and graphics, in an original way. Her starting point was artistic research, during which she investigated the transformation of the agricultural landscape in the small village of Kejnice (in southwest Bohemia), where she grew up. Klesalová was interested in the consequences of both the collectivisation of agriculture after 1948 and the reverse process, the restitution after the Velvet Revolution. She conducted a survey via questionnaire to explore how these changes affected people’s lives and their relationship to the land and the landscape, and she transformed the abstract patterns of cadastral maps into computer graphics and into monochrome images made from geotextiles.
