Artist and curator Jan Stolín (b.1966) uses technical elements in his work, combining them with light, sound, and digital images. His current exhibition in Cheb is conceived as an introspective reflection in three parts. Each of these is a holistic statement concerning the state of the human psyche: in the first, the viewer witnesses a spontaneously emerging drawing on a blank wall; in the second, we are exposed to a dramatic installation of scaffolding tubes enlivened by bird silhouettes in a darkened room; in the third, we encounter drawings of aligned horizons, transitioning into a formless vibration, disappearing into the void. Employing a wide range of expressive devices, from three-dimensional objects to pastels, Stolín further develops his long-standing meditation on the limits of sensory phenomena, shifting from extreme existential moments to hedonistic raptures.
