The presentation of contemporary children’s illustrations in GAVU’s café gallery continues with an exhibition by two artists. Eva Volfová (b.1979) is showing the work she created for her most recent book Nitka a zatoulaný knoflíček [Nitka and the Stray Button], published by Baobab in 2022. As with most of Volfová’s previous book the illustrations are embroidered. The other artist, Junko Nakamura, was born in Tokyo and lives in Paris. She has been working with French publisher éditions MeMo since 2012. On show in Cheb are her works on the theme of animals. This exhibition forms part of the European project The Eye of the World, an event created and backed by MeMo. Its aim is to connect authors and illustrators of children’s books with cultural institutions. Following the success of last year’s event — in which twelve small, independent publishers from across the globe participated — in 2024 it is taking place in Poland, Italy, and the Czech Republic. The organiser here is Baobab publishing house, with which GAVU Cheb has long collaborated. Eight presentations have been prepared, each bringing together a Czech and a foreign author.
