Jan Šrámek (b.1983) is an important illustrator of children’s books. His solo exhibition, however, presents another important segment of his work — that of depicting architecture, specifically important architectural monuments from the 1960s to the 1980s which have unfortunately begun to systematically disappear over the last fifteen years or so. It is no coincidence that the impetus for these large-format digital paintings has often been to form a campaign to save those buildings. Through his precise illustrations of exteriors, interiors, and incorporated works of art, Šrámek tries to point out the authentic qualities of the building, using this visual language to warn of the assets we would irretrievably lose. The exhibition includes reminders of iconic buildings that have failed to be preserved (e.g. Ještěd department store in Liberec, Hotel Praha in Prague), as well as buildings seriously damaged by unsympathetic reconstructions, such as Hotel Thermal in Karlovy Vary
