Jan Rambousek in the GAVU Cheb collection

GAVU – Exhibition from the Depository

27. 3. – 6. 10. 2024

Curator Marcel Fišer

Graphic artist and painter Jan Rambousek (1895-1976) was the most prominent representative of Czech social art of the 1920s, a significant phenomenon in which several dozen artists participated. In GAVU Cheb’s collection there are 38 graphic works and one drawing, most of these acquired after the artist’s exhibition in Cheb in 1973. This exhibition became the impetus for a first in-depth look at these works. Dates and titles were revised, and the works were linked to the relevant cycles, graphic albums, and books he illustrated. Along with the exhibition preparations, the entire collection was digitised, and has now been published on sbirky.gavu.cz. Here, potential visitors can view all the works in high resolution, while the exhibition itself presents a selection of the most important works with which Rambousek enriched Czech art.
